SharePoint 2010 Search issue Internal server error exception. Troubleshoot issues Correlation ID

When you search in SharePoint 2010, you may get the following error:

Internal server error exception

Troubleshoot issues with Microsoft SharePoint Foundation.

Correlation ID: de2996f1-a6c9-42fb-a6da-e5fc7d769069
*NOTE You will have a different Correlation ID! Look up your Correlation ID in your log files.

Solution 1:

You will have to install the following hotfix

For Windows Server 2008 R2, Hotfix for.NET Framework 3.5 SP1 that provides a method to support the token authentication without transport security or message encryption in WCF (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=166231).

Solution 2:

Reboot your server(s). Ensure that your search services have started.

Solution 3:

Ensure you dont have any issues with your search databases. Eg. Out of disk space, SQL Alias not present on all SharePoint servers.

  2. I used to get the following Error when I search for anything

    Internal Server Exception on Sharepoint Server Search.

    You should enable “Search Server WebParts” feature on the Site Collection level.

    That helped me. Hope it helps you too.

  4. I am getting this error below on searching. I have tried activating the webpart feature as well.
    I have a sharepoint 2010 installation on a single box with Full version of SQL 2008

  5. A number of us are having issues with Evolution Sharepoint. The following are recurring issues:
    1. Raising a risk in the products log
    2. Raising risks/issues/ actions in the IRC log as (PGF level) and getting it to show up in the overall Evolution logs
    3. Signing in to the SP using VPN
    4. Downloading Evolution level risks/issues/actions into excel

    • Im guessing you’ve sorted this out by now? Did you look up that correlation id using the ULS log viewer? Looks like a time out with AD. Check DNS, firewall, event logs.
